1 of 15 - Sickle-shaped telipogon (Telipogon falcatus)

I am always on the lookout for orchids on my trips; there is always a special 'discovery' feeling when I find a species I hadn't seen before. Wild orchids are the most diverse group of plants in the world with approximately 30.000 species. Some of them are tiny while others very large, some have very strange shapes and many have exquisite odors. The most difficult to photograph for me have been the truly epiphytic, the ones that only grow over other vegetation. Usually they are high in trees and are very hard to get close to to get a good image of them.

Siempre estoy en la búsqueda de orquídeas en mis viajes: siempre hay esa sensación de descubrimiento cuando encuentro una especie que no había visto antes. Las orquídeas salvajes son el grupo de plantas más diverso en el mundo con cerca de 30.000 especies. Algunas de ellas son miniatura, otras bastante grandes, algunas tienen formas muy extrañas y muchas tienen olores exquisitos. Las más difíciles de fotografiar para mi han sido las verdaderamente epífitas, las que sólo crecen sobre otra vegetación. Usualmente están muy alto en los árboles y es muy difícil acercarse para lograr una buena imágen de ellas.
